This year my main aim is to maintain a generally high level of endurance running fitness. I want to sustain this throughout the entire year.
However, not before I’ve scratched an initial speed running itch! Recent training has been going well. I am preparing for a sub 1:30 half marathon in January. I am also gearing up for my first ever full road marathon in February.
Last year was what I would consider my first “proper” ultra year. Where I kept going back to 100 km races, completing them in respectable times, and not getting injured. I completed 7 100 km races in as many months, and got quicker as the year progressed.
This year, I want to continue with mostly 100 km races within the UK and Europe. I plan to finally try 100 mile distance races in 2026.
So, to be specific, my goals are to:
- Go under 12 hours for the 100 km distance
- Finish all 9 ultra-distance races without injury
- Finish 24 loops of the Suffolk Backyard ultra (to technically achieve my first ever 100 mile distance)
- Prepare myself physically and mentally for the year of hundred-milers in 2026
My current race schedule (as of January 1st, 2025)
